gas gauge sticking

Default gas gauge sticking

my guage is sticking on my 86 rex dx. i know its not the cluster because the gauge only goes to a little above empty. (and no its not from a lack of gas. lol)
suggestions?

I would recommend replacing the sending unit but nobody makes that part any more..You might get lucky on Ebay

Has the car sit for a long time at some point ? The varnishes build up on it when that happens. If it sits low of fuel it can gum up an electric fuel pump in a tank just as easily.

I had a problem like that with a friends HONDA and we pulled the tank and cleaned the crud off the float/sending unit and sprayed it good with carb cleaner and got it working like new. Another thing to consider checking is the
ground with the car body too. You may connect a wire to some point to the tank and to the car body where there is a good connection.
