Gas Gauge/Tank Help
Well,
My horribly inefficient car gets about 23-24mpg. I usually drive 230miles and fill up. At 230 my gauge is very close to the red. A few days ago, when I had 230miles on the trip meter and the gauge was on E, I went to fill up and my car only accepted 5.5gal. I tried to put more in and it kept stopping me and actually spilled a TINY bit. The gauge read full and it's been doing the same thing since. Now when I drive 230miles, the tank reads 1/2.
Any ideas? Seems like my tank was reduced by 50% capacity.

Re: Gas Gauge/Tank Help (eL)
I have the same basic problem wiht my 1993 DX Hatchback. When I drive 240mi, the tank reads about 1/2full to empty all the time, and the I go to fill up it only accepts 5 or 6 gallons. I know its a 12ga. tank b/c it was replaced by Honda once and I have the specs. One thing I have tried (I work at a Honda Dealership..) is to make sure the ground for the fuel gauge is not corroded. Take out the driver seat, be careful for the seatbelt warning electrical connection, and take off the rocker pannel protector things, plastic coverings i guess. carefull for the plastic clips they break easy. Remove the cover if you have the cable for the gas cap, or trunk release, then pull the carpet up a small amount until the ridged metal where the fron of the driver seat connects, the back of that should be a small screw, and check to make sure its not corroded. if it is, clean it off, and put some dielectric grease on it. that SHOULD fix it, i know it has for others.
Otherwise its probably your sending unit like mine was, but this is easier and costs less usually.

Maybe your fuel mileage increased.

Your going to have to do some checking. Is the fuel sender working right? Is the tank getting filled or not? (you can see that when you have the sender out of the tank)

Re: (Chiovnidca)
I wouldnt know where to begin. I'm afraid of messing something up lol. This morning I went to see if I could put any more gas in and everytime I hit the trigger, it pumped maybe like $0.50 in gas and stopped and i kept doing this until it came out a bit. I got 4gal this morning plus the 5.5 yesterday. I think its full now. Sucks thats its only taking 5gal with ease then 4 more with tons of effort.
What do I do?
