K24A2 vs K24A1 in 86 CRX Si
Well I've gotten my hands on an 86 CRX Si. Its got about 129k miles on it and everything is still stock. My brother has been trying to convince me to put a bigger engine in it. For awhile I was thinking about a B20 swap... but then I thought I might as well go big, or go home. I know a K24A1 is a CRV engine and will probably work fine in my CRX. But, a K24A2 gives me an extra 40 horses. Can I put the K24A2 in a CRX?
Or should I just go with a B20?
Forgive me if I sound like a complete idiot. I'm kind of new at all of this.

anything will fit with the right fabrication and enough money. it's a waste if you ask me and most of the people here.. but if it's what you want to do, then go right ahead.

Check with HASport for mounting kits. I could be wrong, but I think the K motors may be a bit too tall to fit under the hood of a 1st Gen.
B series would be a fine alternative and we know they fit.

a carburated B20 would be the best for that car. then you dont have to do any tuning an obd0 ecu ... I would not try to do a K series in that car for your first swap

Your first project car or two is going to turn out like crap, if that classic CRX is remotely clean you are morally obliged to pick up a rustbucket instead for that sort of experimentation.
Also, K-series have issues. Great if you have deep pockets to upgrade the sort of stuff that is already done correctly on earlier or other brands, but I'm not a fan.

You certainly didn't pick one of the easier Honda chassis to do a motor swap on, that's for sure. And if you choose to go through with it--by the time you're done you'll have more money into it than you plan for--probably too much considering what you'll end up with in the end.
If the car is an all-original and good condition Si, you'd be better off either enjoying it for what it is or putting it on ebay and turning a nice profit. With that money you can then buy a 88+ Civic and swap motors as much as you want--and a lot easier.
People have done the swap you're talking about, so it's not like you'll be the only car out there. But it's too much fabrication and effort only for an end result that won't be significantly faster than a 88+ Civic nor will it even handle as well due to the archaic suspension setup and all the extra weight over the nose.
The car is what it is--a cool little lightweight and fun to drive car that gets great mileage. Engine swaps in that chassis just don't have the appeal like they do in the later cars.
To sum it up--seems like your money and time is better spent elsewhere if this is your first project.

you don't want an "asshaulin rice-burner". sounds like you just want something you can put a k24 in, which you do not need to make a quick car.

There are cheap turbo D-series routes to go, or the unpleasant B-swaps that eat up all of your engine bay room if you want to go all motor with more than the 130-140 whp that the D16 is capable of on an affordable budget.
I agree, it sounds like the OP wants to drop a lot of money on a poorly designed retainer splitting valve dropper like a K24A, whose transmission doesn't have the sides of the gears properly hardened so they eventually shear off if you try to speed shift under power. It's an inferior platform in the respect that it requires money thrown at it to overcome it's basic engineering flaws before you can worry about performance. Cool setups if you've got that sort of budget, there is a lot to recommend them, but IMO they aren't a great idea for a classic Si.

By asking for what car to buy to do a K-series swap into, instead of a better choice of engine swap/etc to perform into your CRX to make it an "asshaulin rice-burner," you pretty much let us all know what you do and you do not want. It's a pretty logical deduction to make - as soon as you can't do a K-swap into the CRX you want something else.

i am a person sitting in front of a keyboard, screen, computer, and a mouse shaped like a Fiat 500. i have read your questions and responses with much thought. i have taken time out of my day to help you out. i have made the logical conclusion by your statements that you feel the need for a K series motor. therefore, i have suggested a logical response to you. if you do not like my responses, amazingly enough you can actually ignore them and move on to the next poster.
