So I just got a 1999 Honda Accord 5 Speed. About 1/3 of the time when I slow down the car shuts off. I tried to call Honda about the recall, but they said that mine doesn't apply to it. Any idea's what it could be?

 

I had this problem on my 01 Accord Auto. Does it stumble then shuts off?

I wasn't sure if this was the correct solution, but I cleaned the Idle air control valve. There was a good amount of carbon build up inside. So far it helps. Haven't had any problems with it dying. Idle became lots smoother too!

 

push the clutch in?

 

yeah clutch is in, how would i go about cleaning that?

 

you can clean it with air, but soo you push the clutch in and push the brake, shift to neutral? then the car dies , when exactly does it die?

 

any other ideas?

well the clutch is in, sometimes its un netural and someitmes its still in gear. I'm usually not at a compmlete stop when it dies, usually im like going around a corner.

 

its common for the electrical portion of the ignition switch to go bad causing the turn off randomly so might check it out also

 

thats what the recall was for and mine didn't fall under that according to honda. But i changed the plugs today and it hasn't done it so far.

 

I had the same exact issue at this same time last year , and it was my main relay. I resoldered all the solder joints and it's worked fine since.

 

ok turns out the plugs didn't fix it, it worked fine for about a day and it back now. Any other ideas?
