valves?

Icon3 valves?

i own 98 civic ex coupe with a d16y8 and was wondering if i need new valves? my oil is almost completley black when i check it and i notice there is more smoke coming out the exhaust than ussual. the condensation coming out the exhaust is also a blackish type water. any thoughts?

Does the engine smoke? Under load or at high RPM? Under load would be valve seals, which are possible to change without removing the head. Rings, I'd just swap the motor if you're even considering swapping it.

ya that also came to mind just getting rid of it and putting something new in. the engine it self doesnt but it smokes quite a bit out of the exhaust even when warmed up

Yeah I meant the engine smoked and a cloud was coming out from the engine bay.... Usually when people talk about their engine smoking, they mean it's coming out the exhaust. I see you'll be putting a B18C1 in, but if the Y8 head is still good, it could be sold.

sounds like some rings are shot. have you done any compression or leakdown tests?

ya i havent done any compression tests yet i got my license suspended so i have plenty of time to figure things out haha and yeah if it does happen to be the rings il be getting rid of the motor and swapping it to a b18

run some seafoam in there and clean out the carbon deposits

X2, if the rings are shot seafoam is not going to put them back within factory specs.

ya i dont think sea foam would help it, it would clean it yeah but wouldnt help. so now im kind of in a perdicament can i get some opinions on this? should i just get a gsr motor and say **** the sohc or look into it and see if i need new valves and if i do just replace those the retainers springs ect or if its the rings is it really even worth looking into?
