anyone know the toyota 5vz-fe engine?
is the 5vz-fe engine an interference engine??
was helping out a family friend in a bad spot. they cracked the head and blew the head gasket on the #1 on their 97 4runner.
I got a good head and tossed it on and when I got it running it had a misfire on all 3 on the head I replaced. I thought at first it had an ignition issue.
finally checked the compression and all three were between 30~60psi.
did a leakdown test and at TDC on #1 its a big leak out the exhaust. I popped the valve cover off and it doesnt look like the valves are bent but then I noticed, even though I have the cams lined up...there's a second set of marks on each one I didnt see the first time.
I think I have the exhaust cam 180 out. I'm wondering if I bent the exhaust valves or not before I even attempt to re-align the cams...

god now that I think about it more, I'm hoping with the exhaust cam 180 out I didnt break the tips off any valves as this would likely have the intake/exhaust valves open at the same times possibly

Re: anyone know the toyota 5vz-fe engine?
nevermind. its non-interference.
also, used the cracked head as a test mule setup like I had the car setup, valves didnt contact so I pulled the exhaust cam and set it properly and it purrs like a kitten.
carry on.
