Default LS tranny question

Got my LS swap ready for my 90 si. I put a new flywheel, clutch and pressure plate on. I mounted the tranny on the motor with zero issues. Everything is looking good sitting on the pallet.

I noticed that the shift lever on the front of the tranny moves up pretty easily. Should'nt there be some tension?

It's not super sloppy.

I can engage gears without moving the clutch.

well, at least with the car not running you can.. the clutch is basically just an on/off switch for the tranny.. lol

but yeah.. if you can engage the gears, and its no TOO bad, then you should be good.. they arent supposed to be SUPER stuff.. if you shake the tranny a bit, does it flap around alot? lol

No, it's solid. It has SOME tension on it.

I'm just not sure exactly what it's supposed to feel like. The D series I just pulled out feels very similar.

lol you mean the clutch fork?! you did put a release bearing it right? once you hook up the cable and tighten it up the slop will go away, you cant physically disengage the pressure plate by hand (unless your some kinda of built mother *****), thats what the clutch cable/pedal does.

you can shift the gears in any manual tranny with it off and no clutch, its when its running that you need to disengage the clutch to shift gears (unless your my friend and is lazy as hell and just shifts with out clutching, which i guess hes doing anyway cause his clutch is toast)

It sounds to me like he is talking about the TOB lever. There is a spring on the arm that should hold the TOB lever to a little pivot **** in the bell housing. If the lever came off that ****, that may be why its floppy. you don't need to pull the trans to put it back on.

it's normal. the lever should move easily until the point when the throwout bearing hits the pressure plate. this is how much travel you should see
