Default retorque of ARP head nuts

I submitted a question to technical support on ARP's webpage concerning retorqueing the nuts on my H23 head. Their response is below but I have a follow up question.

"It is recommended that after an initial heat cycle you re-torque the head. To do so we recommend backing the nuts off one at a time and taking them back up to the recommended torque spec. Make sure to get the nut tightened to the correct torque before moving on and loosening the next nut."

For those of you that have done this, do you remove all of the torque from a single nut and then torque back to 80 ft.lbs or do you just loosen the nut, say one full turn, and then torque back to 80 ft.lbs. Thanks for any help.

What did you initially set the torque to? Was it more than 80ft/lbs? Basically you need to back it off to the point where when you you retorque it, it will be at 80ft/lbs.

Or maybe you should wait for their response..lol

That is what I was thinking too. Seems like taking all the torque off the nut might cause bad stresses throughout the head. Nevertheless, I will post up what ARP says when they respond......they tend to make a few days for responses.

I got a response from ARP and wanted to post in case others have the same question in the future. Their response for how much to "back" the nuts off when re-torqueing the head.

"It is recommended to back off the nuts about 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn and
re-torque, they do not have to be backed off all the way."

That is what I thought. It makes sense only to release tension not loosen.

G/L with your build.
