Default over heating issue!

I have a f22b sohc in my accord. When i let the car idle the heat gauge goes alittle over the middle mark of the gauge. as soon as i start to go the the needle goes back down to right below the middle line. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideal what it could be...

your thermostat is likley beginning to wear out or your cooling system isnt completely up to par.

Check your coolant levels and top it off if need be.

I think I found the problem... 1. the fan isnt turning on 2. I found coolant on the rear mount... I think its coming from the hoses from the IAC.

Might as well replace the thermostat (as mentioned before)it's a cheap and easy fix.

Why would I do that? If its in working condition no need to replace it.

Dude even if the thermo isn't the problem, I'd replace it anyways. I say this because I had a thermo go bad and ended up killing my engine. Better to prevent problems then to fix em.

if it is overheating while idling (700-800 RPM) , and goes back to normal at driving speed (above 1200 RPM around 2-3k RPM) I would say its the water pump. it would be because the fins on it, they deteriate from the antifreeze, so its not pushing as much coolant through the engine as it needs. but then again your fan isnt turning on either, so that could be a whole different problem. first i would say check your relays and powerflow to the fan.

the reason why i suggested replacing the thermostat is becuase its an easy fix and will save u big time headaches down the road especially since those are designed to fail over time. If your stat gets stuck open you will begin to over heat alot faster becuase the coolant isn't being given a chance to properly transfer heat before being recycled back into the motor which will cause further damage in the long run. Sometimes alittle preventative maintenance goes a long way.

but if your fan is not turning on I'd say test it by turning to the heat on full blast and then physically look to see if both fans are spinning if not then you have a more serious issue elsewhere that you need to address.
