Ramhorn manifold Cooking hood
I am about to put my car back together and was wondering what other people are doing with their manifolds as far as heat. My under hood temps get so hot that when you park the car you dont want to put your hand on the hood and it seems like its starting to mess with the paint which I dont want.
My dump tube and down pipe are heat wrapped, is there any thing I can do to the manifold? Or should I just heat wrap that too. I really hate how it looks but I guess if it helps.

I personally secured a piece of welding fiberglass looking mat to the webbing of my hood, since my ramhorn almost touched my hood. And like you said, I went form being able to cook an egg on the hood, to being able to sit my girlfriend on it comfortably after. Cost me like $60, but id trust it more than that film
Get the manifold and turbine ceramic heat coated, then add a turbo blanket. This type of topic has been discussed on this website hundreds of times. Good Luck
That actually happened to me, I put a large square on the underside of the hood above the turbo and now it falls down all the time
I have to clean off all of that sticky crap now.
Does any one know which will cut underhood temps more, the coating or header wrap?
There is a place in WA not too far from me that I found that will coat the manifold for about $100. Just trying to think if I want to go this route or the wrap. Im just afraid that the coating may not cut the temps as much as the wrap. I dont want to spend the money just to wrap it later.

Wrap makes it so you can grab the manifold after a pull
Coating and that manifold is still skin seering hot
Wrap it
And no your manifold doesnt rust, mine didnt after 2 years anyways

Yes, there is plenty of truth to this. The welds will start to rust and weaken over time, which can lead to cracking. The problem is heat wrap retains moisture. If you want to wrap your manifold you need to protect the metal first. I recommend a ceramic coating, but a proper high temp/anti-rust paint job will be better then nothing by a long shot.
i thought the manifolds rusted with the wrap because the people used crappy wrap that had chlorine in it and the chlorine was what was rusting the metal.
maybe i'm wrong. i'd say get it coated, then wrap it, then put a blanket on it. all at the same time.

If some one wants to paypal me some cash I would do that lol coating+wrap+turbo blanket = $$$
I may just go with the wrap, the car is not a daily and rarely sees rain so if I replace the wrap in the winter its no biggie I guess

all you need is a good exhaust wrap. DEI makes a really good wrap and they have charcol color instead of the ugly white. works wonders. after a 130mph 1320 run i was able to touch the manifold with the wrap on it and not get burned.
i run a turbo blanket on my setup because i have top mount and the turbine was cookign my hood. since then runs cool as can be and i can also touch that afer a run

Header wrap is not good for the manifold. Normally heat radiates off the manifold into the atmosphere (ie your engine bay) and this helps keep the metal at a withstandable temp. Wrapping the metal forces that extra heat to stay inside the manifold. The extra heat wears the metal faster and leads to premature failure of the manifold. The wrap makes the manifold cooler to the touch but hot as hell on the inside.
people have bee wrapping headers and manifolds for years. maybe it causes premature failure but at what rate? i never had a single problem personally not to say problems dont exsist
Its prob not going to hurt my feelings if I have to buy a new manifold 8 years from now lol I had my downpipe wrapped for 2 years and when I took it off there was some rust inder the wrap but I would imagine there would be some if it was unwrapped too much the same way brake rotors etc. rust. I just cleaned it up and re wrapped it.
Yeah some people are babies and act like there gonna have the same turbo and manifold for 10 years. Hell Im lucky if I have my setup for 2 years tops
Wrap it with some black header wrap and be done with it
