Default EGT temps....

I just started my engine the other day and its having an EGT of around 430-450 C (806-842 F). The EGT is mounted about 2 inches from the head on runner #3.From what I've read in some of the archived threads this seems pretty normal.

The thing is I started it after it had rained and after 5 minutes the section of my hood over the engine was dry. The manifold is giving off a lot of heat toward the hood and Im just wondering if everone experiences this much.

Do you guys think there is a point to putting some kind of reflective material (aluminum shielding) on the hood?

How hot is too hot before the paint is affected?

What kind did you use and where did you get it from? Im trying to find something that manufactures use, often found on the underside of MB and BMW hoods.
