Ok, then do what 424racer said. There is a retaining clip that holds the cable into the vss sensor and sometimes if that comes off or is loose the cable can come out.

It goes in a hole of the VSS on the back of the tranny. It faces upward and is located above the shift linkage on the back

x2 just insert the cable end into that hole in the top of the trans. make sure you put the lil clip in there too. and thats weird its throwing a code for the vss..what ecu? i have a p28 in my d15b and dont have any cel issues for the vss. using the cable..no problems

Did you use the retaining clip? Make sure it's in all the way, both the cable and vss. Also reset your ecu, you can do that by disconnecting your negative battery cable or removing your ecu fuse. Hopefully that will fix your problem.

what's not working the spedometer or the check engine light not turning off?

if it's the check engine light that you're referring to then do as suggested above.

if your speedometer is the one that isn't working then it could be your speedometer is malfunctioning, your cable is broken, or your vss is malfuntioning.

vss= vehicle speed sensor...

the cable slides into a little slot in the speed sensor on the tranny. it will still work woth out the locking clip.
where are you located?

The vss is the thing that the cable goes into. If your speedo still doesnt work then remove the VSS from the tranny and visually inspect if for damage. Then spin the gear and look down the hole where the cable goes into it. Do you see any thing moving? if you do then it most likely works. If the vss is working fine, then pull out your gauge cluster and remove the speedo cable from it. Have someone spin the cable at one end and see if it moves at the other end. If it does you most likely have a problem with the gauge inside the cluster.
