All motor B18C question
I'm trying to pick which rods to use with my build I am doing this winter. I was thinking about using LS rods for a little better compression, is there any advantage of using GSR/Type-R rods over LS rods? Also, what kind of power are the OEM LS rods good for? I'm just going 11.5:1 compression and a fairly aggressive top end. Thanks for your help.
The rods you use will depend on what crank you end up using in your B18c. If you run an LS crank, you will have to use LS rods, if you use a GSR/type R crank, you will use those corresponding rods.
rod length;
b16: 134mm
b18b: 137mm
b18c: 137.9mm
crank (stroke);
b16: 77.4mm
b18b: 89mm
b18c: 87.2mm

00Red_SIR is correct with his statement.
Also consider that GSR pistons will not fit LS rods. I found this somewhere, just don't remember where:

"You can use b18C1 , b16B, and B18C5 pistons on an LS rod as long as you mill the small end of the rod by 0.7mm on each side and then shot peen the rod to regain the surface tension strength. The small end of the LS rod is too fat for the GSR and "R" pistons but you CAN make these pistons fit.
You can use JDM b16A (PR30) and USDM b16A (PR3) pistons directly on LS rods without having to mill the small end of the rod."

Without substantial and dangerous milling, no. The GSR rods are too beefy to fit on an LS crank. Also keep in mind GSR rods do not have an integrated oil squirter because the GSR block has squirters on the block. LS rods have this little hole that collects oil from the journal and squirts it up toward the piston.
