Dropped a Valve/FUBAR Head
Well, on my way to work this morning, I heard a pop and then the car started running like **** while in 5th at about 75mph. I could hear it missing on a cylinder, so I did long loop back to my house (didnt want to leave her on the side of the road) and made it into the garage.
The car is running like hell, you can hear a metallic tap on every rotation while idling and the car is barely staying running. No CEL, which I find interesting.
I pulled all the plugs, found small drops of melted aluminium on the plug for #2 and oil/fuel residue like it is not lighting off. I plan on a compression check, need to get mine back from a friend to see what it shows. I think I dropped a valve or broke a ring land in that cylinder.
The Dizzy and cap/rotor look fine and the plug wires are relatively new, so the only other reason for no light off is lack of compression
So depending on the damage, I may have the head done by JGE or King, or may install my Virgin Spoon Motor and put the original in storage for repair at a later date. Given the $$ involved, the Spoon install will be the cheapest option, and I can install a new clutch/flywheel when I pull the motor. I will post up some picks when I pull the head.
One other option is someone has a R head laying around that has been recently worked, if any of you guys do, let me know.
Thoughts?
