The motor is sleeved GSR 81mm 9:1. Ive put 70 miles on the motor so far have pulled the plugs to find an oily #1 plug. Also looking down I can see oil sitting on the top of the #1 piston. All other plugs look like they are burning just fine. When I look down the holes in other cylinders they even look like there is a slight film of oil on the top of the pistons. The motor runs great and compression across the board is 180 psi

The cylinder head was sent to Alaniz for OEM valve job and install of my Supertech springs and retainers prior to install. Not sure if this is a cylinder head problem or not??

ANy ideas on what to check out before I go pulling the head?

I can post pics later tonight. The oil on the plug is at the bottom of the threads and on the ground strap(about half way up towards the electrode.)

Sounds like a valve seal problem to me. Did Alaniz replace them?

Yes, supposedly he replaced them. That was part of the OEM valve job.

Im curious as to why the oil isnt burning off during normal combustion?

The car doesnt smoke at idle and I cant see it smoking during a drive either...

did u check the bottom of the valve cover and see if the rubber o ring is still might have drop out without u realizing>

Yeah I dont think that is the problem Ive checked. Besides the oil is on the bottom part of the plug near combustion chamber.

if the grommet isn't sealing properly on the valve cover, the oil will leak in to the spark plug hole, then when you take the plug out, the oil goes down in to the cylinder and looks like clean unburnt oil on top of the piston, as well as on the bottom of the plug. do you notice any oil on the end of your spark plug wire? i say put the plugs back in start the motor back up and this time check down in the plug holes and on the end of the plug wires BEFORE you pull the plugs.

I will check again but I'm 100% sure that this isnt my problem.

I had that happen to my motoer too.. i couldn't figure it out for the the life of me so I sent it back to my builder..

turned out, my cylnder walls were round and the problem was worse than I thought.. This was after a few thousand miles of driving though..

Well Im pretty confindent with the sleeve job that was done by Benson. Im really hoping that it is something in the head (preferably valve seal...)

is there oil on the outside of the sparkplug, sounds like you have oil leaking in between valve cover and head then when you pulled the plug, the oil covered the plug making it seem like you have oil in the cyl.

i ahve the same issue! No smoking oout the exhaust, but im losing a quart every 1000 miles or so....and i have zero oil leaks...my chamber does look damp as well...car runs good, compression check is good, leak down is good to..so i dunno..

Ok the oil is not coming from the valvecover. I checked that again tonight. I just went for a drive again tonight. Right when I started the car there was a little blue smoke from the exhaust(oil) Drove it about 10 miles and put a load on the motor. Came back and immediately pulled the plugs... The plug itself wasnt damp this time, however, the top of piston #1 was glossy and had oil on it, The #2 cylinder had a little as well. #3 and# 4 looked fine,

Im stumped at this point... I dont have a chance to do a leakdown for a few more days.

The car runs and drives perfect!

Im gonna pull the exhaust when the car cools down and see if there are any signs of leakage through the seals/guides

Just pulled the exhaust and on the #1 port, one side is oily, and the back side of the valve looks wet... The others looked fine without any signs of leakage.

Didnt pull the intake manifold cause its a pain in the ***.

This means oil is leaking down past the stem of the valve

It's possible they damaged a seal or two. I've never done it on a b-series, but the seals can be replaced with the head on the engine. You would need a spring compressor that works fit and a way to keep the valve from dropping into the head.

to keep the valve dropping its easy hook up an air compressor to a threaded rubber hose and screw it in the spark plug hole...and the compressed air will keep the vavle up no problem....its actually pretty easy

I've always used the rope method.

Yeah im gonna use air to hold the valves up. Gonna replace the seals on #1 and that should solve the problem.
