Default TURBO WONT FIT!!!!!!

Hey guys im currently in the process of installing my t3/t40e on my d16y8 but when i tried to mount everything on, my turbo is hitting the web casting on my motor. I was just wondering if it was okay if i took a grinder and cut a little off or would that weaken my motors structure? The part its touching is under my exhaust manifold to the left right before the tranny. Is this common or should i look for a new manifold, i currently have a spoolin log mani.

A lot of people have this problem...just take a dremel or grinder and cut a notch in it

no, if its just extra metal you can grind off to make room without really getting into anything you should be fine.

Pretty much. Just a small notch will do. Make sure you don't cut into the block, obviously

pics of said set-up? is your turbo 4-bolt or 5-bolt? i was under the impression that the spoolin log mani spaced the turbo away from the block.

or do you have the spoolin "cast" mani. in that case some notching is required and perfectly normal for our cars.

Its a spoolin cast log manifold...I wish I can show a picture but I'm on phone. The turbo is a t3 t4 and it looks like I need to grind from where the tranny and block meet but I'm worried that I might grind into something critical. I have a spare blown block so I'm gonna do a test on that first and see what happens.

ok that makes more sense. now the big question is 4 or 5-bolt turbo. if its 4-bolt you are gonna have major clearance issues and it may not fit at all, even after notching. cast manis are designed to work with 5-bolt turbos.

if you have a 5-bolt then notch it and you are good to go. here's a pic for reference

Its a 5 bolt and see that bump right next to where he notched it...that's where I have to grind but I don't know what's behind it.

you could have just turned the turbo the other way so the compressor is on the driver side. then you don't have to hack at your block. unless your tryin to run a/c also.

true but i assume he already has all of his parts. flipping the turbo would require mods to the downpipe, ic piping, maybe oil return and dumptube too
