Ball Joint removal? help
Wats up honda-tech?I have 1991 civic si.I been working on refreshing my front suspension, i laready change everything from upper baljoints to my tie rods etc...I was about to change my lower ball joints, when i noticed that the wheel bearing is overlapping the lower balljoint. So i ended up not doing it cause im afraid to mees up the wheel bearing. Has anybody had this problem before? any tricks to how to do it? any help would be appreciated.
When I replaced my lower ball joint on my 1991 CRX. Which is basically the same as your civic. I removed my entire knuckle off. And rented a ball joint extraction tool from Kragen. To extract the lower ball joint. And used the same tool to press in the new lower ball joint. You can also do this without removing the knuckle also.

put a flat blade screwdriver in between that ring and the spindle and it will pop off.
You need these removed to do a b-series swap either way, so just toss em out.

and by the way you dont really need that tool for the lower ball joint. just place the spindle in a vice UPSIDE DOWN, so the ball joint stud is pointing up. take a deep well impace socket just slightly bigger than the stud, place is over the stud and hit it with a 3lb-5lb sledge like 3 or 4 times and it will pop out.
i just did this like 2 weeks ago it was simple! you should use the tool to put it in the spindle tho, that way you arent bashing on a good lower balljoint.
