When I replaced my lower ball joint on my 1991 CRX. Which is basically the same as your civic. I removed my entire knuckle off. And rented a ball joint extraction tool from Kragen. To extract the lower ball joint. And used the same tool to press in the new lower ball joint. You can also do this without removing the knuckle also.

i had the the hole thing off. but my problem is that the bearing is overlapping the balljoint, only a little bit. so if i pull it is gonna run into the bearing. or can i take off the other way?. i really dont want to mess up the bearing.but my balljoints are pretty bad already

you sure it wasn't just the dust shield?

I've had these suspensions apart more times that I can count and I've only ever run into the dust shield ring.

in all seriousness...the piece thats covering the lower balljoint is the dust shield/ring whatever you want to call it for the wheel bearing. that needs to be removed in order to have space to pop out the ball joint.

put a flat blade screwdriver in between that ring and the spindle and it will pop off.

You need these removed to do a b-series swap either way, so just toss em out.

and by the way you dont really need that tool for the lower ball joint. just place the spindle in a vice UPSIDE DOWN, so the ball joint stud is pointing up. take a deep well impace socket just slightly bigger than the stud, place is over the stud and hit it with a 3lb-5lb sledge like 3 or 4 times and it will pop out.

i just did this like 2 weeks ago it was simple! you should use the tool to put it in the spindle tho, that way you arent bashing on a good lower balljoint.

Word, I bash them out and press them back in. Works like a charm.

Let us know if you have any other problems.
