Dual bend V. straight SS?

Dual bend V. straight SS?
Other than the obvious, just wondering what the difference would be between a straight and a dual bend short shifter? I have a 2000 Hatch, does it have a straight shifter from stock? Would the dual bend bring the shif **** closer to me?
