Default My car over heats

This problem has been going on all summer and now. I have done a few things to see what it could be...

When im driving long distance the temp goes all the way up.. if i rev my car up while im driving it seems to bring the temp down. If i have been driving awhile and some to a stop the temp goes up until i go again then drops. The heater was bringing the temp down during the summer but now that its cold it brings it up.. Another thing that was going on was all the coolant was coming out of radiator and filling the over flow up. when i would turn my car off all the coolant would spill out the over flow. i had to put coolant in my radiator pretty often. lately its been ok but every once and awhile it acts up.. ive checked the coolant level.. changed the thermastate changed the radiator cap.. could it be the water pump???

Air in the coolant lines?
What does your motor oil look like?

Does the radiator fan come on?

Have you pressure tested the system?

Are you sure your head gasket isn't bad?

We have a Search feature and dozens of threads on this topic.

I was able to pressure test it and everything looked good.. And my fans do come on. I don't know.. Like I said in the summer turning the heater on helped but now that it's colder I turn the heater on it brings my temp up... But this only happens every now and then.. It's not like everytime I do it

That was the very first step I took was swapping that out.. But the problem was still there... Could it be that I have a bad water pump?

I am facing the same problem. I am taking to the mechanic tomorrow. Very annoying.

Should have searched. I had the same problem, made a thread and resolved it.

1. Properly flush, rinse, refill your coolant system.

2. Change the thermostat, may not be needed, but it might help.

The problem I had was having air inside my coolant system so I just flushed the system and now it's running perfect.

I just went ahead and replaced the motor. I figured I had a cracked head and the price to take it and get fixed was around the same amount to just replace the motor. I rather start fresh and not have to worry about the same problem again. the motor was 650 and labor was 450.. But now my car is running like a champ and no more over heating. if you have the money i say do what i did. instead of keep putting more and more money into trying to find whats wrong

these heads don't crack

probably air in the system from a leak or a bad head gasket
