2001 honda prelude sh flooded question
Recently my car was flooded ..up to the bottom of the front seats, so its not like the engine was under water. My ecu burnt up and i had it replaced. It is a 2001 prelude sh. The car will not start. It will crank but will not turn over. I have dried everything out, checked all fuses and relays, and replaced my battery since. I sucked a bunch of water out of the muffler. Does anyone have any suggestions to what it could be the is preventing it from starting. My first thought is that it isnt getting any fuel to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If engine will turn over but not start, "turn over" it is most likely a no fuel or no spark issue, to narrow down the problem see if you have spark.
Can you hear the fuel pump prime the fuel system when you turn on the ign. to run, [not start]?
Are your injectors working, have you checked?
Whatever the problem may be, I will be willing to bet it is because of a connection issue.
We do one or two "sunk" vehicles a year, or I should say, redo one or two a year.
Connection plugs of a cars electrical system, [that are not waterproof] must be pulled cleaned and dried out within a few hours of removal from submersion after less then 24hr it will become difficult if not impossible to clean them, oxidation will have started and one by one the terminals will build up resistance, [causing heat] and burn and lose continuity, [break the connection] or just plain corrode to the point of no continuity.
In most cases the sunk cars that we get have already had electrical issues, one little thing after another, some left unrepaired, [could live without them] but now the car will not run.
The FIX, replace any harness/wiring connection that was under water, even some close to the water line, water may have "splashed" into them during the sinking.
The one true thing about electrical connections that have been under water, eventually they will fail.
With all that said, you may just have a blown fuse, you need to narrow it down, fuel or spark? 94

fresh water...thanks i will run test on spark plugs , injectors, and fuel pump...like i said though ive checked every fuse and pulled the relays down to make sure they are all clicking and they are........i just think it has to be something electrical because the car was runnning and starting fine before the flood and then after all the problems started...i took a heat gun and dried all my harnesses that got wet, unplugged all boxes that were wet and dried out the circuit boards...completely removed my seats, and center console, and pulled the carpet up and dried all that up...so thats why i think its something electrical..i really thought it was the main relay but i pulled that out and it wasnt wet and the circuit board looks good and its clicking with ignition and when i try to start it so ...im really thinkning its a fuel pump problem ill have to thoroughly check that out..
I had to replace the ecu in my 01 prelude sh. Do i need to get my key coded to match the ecu? Does it have to be done at a dealership? Do they need the whole car or just the ecu and my keys?thanks
Yes you will need to have the keys programed to the new ECU, at the dealer, they will need the car. 94
obd2 ecu got a imoblizer that prevent it from starting if it waz not the origanal car that the ecu comes out of or bought new or something...unless u take it to the dealer to flash the ecu and match up the key code to your ride

Did you have the new ecu programmed to the vehicle and its keys. If not then this is a definite problem. Your vehicle is equipped with an immobilizer system that doesn't allow for simple ecu changes. You must have the ECU programmed to recognize the keys. Dealer required.
The immobilizer, [transponder key] pick-up, [antenna] is mounted around the key cylinder housing, the immobilizer itself is the ECU/ECM turning off the fuel pump/injectors and/or the ign. power or the starter, it depends on the car, but it is the ECU/ECM that does the immobilizing, so your keys will have to be programed to the "new" ECU/ECM 94
