Default car has been together for a month and wont start

so i have a boosted 99 civic si and b16 has just been built with forged internals and put back in and will not start. it is in time, put new ignition switch in, new distributor but still wont start. i have checked all grounds and everything looks good. compression test showed perfect.weird part is it is not getting spark while cranking BUT when you pull distributor cap off and whatever cylinder the rotor button is on you pull that plug out and ground it to the car, turn the key to accessory long enough for the fuel pump to prime and turn the key back one click to cd player it sparks????dunno what to do and trying to figure it out myself instead of taking it somewhere..

check all fuses.. you might have a bad dizzy as well.. could be many symptoms to this.. if not sparking when cranking over check all options that give it spark.

Check the ohms resistance in the park plug wires should be 25,000 to 35,000 Ohms.

Off the top of my head I can not remember the readings for the ignition coil resistance but if you are out of spec it could possible not be supplying enough spark to ignite. Autozone will test that for free. I think its supposed to be no higher than .9 ohms across the + and - lead.

If the igniter was bad your should have a CEL. If you want to replace it keep in mind D series are the same part # I think the difference from Honda is that the heatsink and mounting into the Dizzy, you may have a spare in the garage instead of spending $60-$100.

First thing I would do is check for power at the distributor assembly, [probably a black/yellow lead] with ign. switch in the ON position, then in RUN and then when cranking to start.

The above test will tell you if the problem is before the distributor or the distributor itself. 94

Are you sure your ecu is good? I've had the same problem and it turned out to be my ecu the whole time, and another time it turned out to be my dizzy.
