Got a problem. Car won't start! Took out distrib put it back in and now wont start!
So my car was perfectly fine, started perfectly fine until I let a buddy of mine barrow the distributor to see if his car needed a new one. Ended up he did. Anyways he brought it back to me and I put it back but then it won't start. I even tried it on another car and the distributor is good too. I tried a known working battery and spark plug wires also. I can't figure what the heck is going on. If anyone has been in this situation before or know what may be the cause, then let me know. I'd like any input so I can get it running. I just can't figure it out. It worked before the starter was taking out, didn't touch anything else, and when I put back the starter it just won't start. Crank but does not turn over. Fuel pump primes so I'm getting gas. It was suppose to be take it out put it back in and start right back up. Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you plugged in the wht/blk wire back all the way. I had the same problem and it was that the rubber boot on that wire kept pushing it off of the other connector. Superficially it still looked like it was connected, but I could tell it wasn't if I jiggled it.

ok make sure ur plugs are all the way in like ( Gagnar ) said and also make sure ur starter fuse is good and the starter is connected.....since ur dizzy is good make sure you line it up right just the way you pulled it out......

There are only two wires connected to the starter: a heavy power carrying wire (which is bolted onto the starter and unlikely to be loose) and a lightweight information carrying wire that tells the starter when to turn on. The small wire is the black/white wire (it's actually two wires -- a black and a white one, I think), and it plugs into the starter. The actual connector is protected by a black rubber boot.
I'm gonna check that but I doubt it but anything can happen. A buddy took out the distributor and then gave back the distributor. I'm almost positive he didn't touch anything near the starter. I'm thinking it's the starter now. So I'm going to swap it for a known starter. The starter sounds like its spinning and not being able to grab on so that might be the problem. If it is indeed a dead starter that just sucks because it just happened to die when I put the distributor back in when b4 I loaned out the dang distributor my car was starting perfectly fine. It would be a coincidence that I'm not too happy with. If I'd had known I would of never loaned out my distributor. I just don't get it that it had to die the same time!...
Whoah, I had a major brain fart... thought you took out the starter. Sorry 'bout that. Of course, it's still something good to check, but you're right it's probably not the problem, esp. if the starter is spinning.
This happened to me last year when my car wouldn't start. I removed my distributer and put it back in and the car still wouldn't start. First I found out my timing belt jumped a tooth. Second, when I installed a new timing belt and the car still wouldn't start, I found out that I installed the distributor wrong. It was rotated and not lined up.

I'm surprised by your reply. I did not know you can install the distributor on the wrong way. From my understanding it won't sit flush without the key like thing on the distributor fitting on the grove where the starter is suppose to go in. I have done numerous starter replacements and had never had a problem with this. I'm gonna try out a known working starter and if that doesnt work i'll make sure i'll try that.
Ok I need these questions answered.
1 Was it only your distributor that was removed?
2 He found out his distributor was bad but did his car run bad in any way?
3 Is the connector on the distributor damaged any loose wire or burnt looking wires?
Check your ground wire on the cyl head and ground wire on the tranny side. Measure resistance .1-.2 ohms is the reading you should get.

2. His car runs fine. Started right up with my distributor
3. The connector on the distributor is good because it started up when he installed it on his car
Ground on cyl head and on tranny side is good.
Distributor is good. Starter is good. Fuel pump primes. I'm completely clueless. For a fact is worked before the distributor was taken out. Just won't turn over anymore. Sounds like its whinning. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
