Default Subaru WRX Turbo- Would it work?

I have a 97 Del Sol Si (D16Y8) and I've been looking to boost it for a while now, but wasn't actually planning to do so for at least a year or more.
With that said, I recently came upon an opportunity to buy a "Stock TD-04 Turbo (less than 5,000mi)" from an 08 WRX and I was wondering if it would be compatible with my engine/car. The main question is whether or not my engine's displacement would be large enough to generate any useful boost (i.e. I wouldn't need to get to 9000 rpms before it even started to spool).
I know nothing about Subie turbochargers (which I heard are actually made by Mitsubishi [lawl]), so please inform me if I need to know anything more.

it will work just have to use whatever flange it mates to on your manifold, you wouldnt need to rev out to 9K, that turbo will be " out of breath " long before that...

Yes...that was hyperbole...
I was just wondering if it would work with my powerband because the engine it was made for is 2.5 liters, vs my 1.6.

It's all about airflow/exhaust flow, and there is no way 1.6 liters can match that of 2.5 at the same RPM.

Thats a tiny turbo don't worry about spool. You will be fine if you use it. But why use that turbo? Remember you gotta match a manifold and downpipe to it plus feed and return. Is better and probably cheaper to get a t3/t4 turbo/manifold/and downpipe that are readily available.

Honda makes superior flowing heads. I guarantee the d series will flow better then the 2.5 liter wrx motor.

My buddy used one on a greddy manifold, neptune management, hks bov, shitty 2 inch ic piping, ebay intercooler, 440cc injectors, 2 inch homemade downpipe. Never dyno'd it but it went 14.0@101 at the track.

It's only $200! That's why I was so interested.

There are stock WRX turbos available for 50 dollars from the NASIOC forums. I'm afraid you got a bit ripped off.

I haven't actually bought it...
And that's where it is for sale- $200 is a huge discount compared to the other ones for sale on there... that I've seen

For $200 I'd want a guarantee in writing.

As far as 1.6L goes, it's not a bad match. It's actually too small for that 2.5L, and those motors are not known for their top-end either. It's in between a 50 and 60trim T3, but I think the turbine is a little smaller. Add a Delta cam like a 264 or 272 to that motor, and you'll have a reeealy fun street/strip car.

the stock td04 on a wrx is actually comparable to a 13g.....yeah really small. If you get an sti turbo it will be comparable to a 16g whether you get a vf39,vf43, or vf48(usdm sti turbos). If i were you, i would just buy an ebay turbo kit on a blanket and not deal with the wack 3 bolt flange or the water lines for a 200-250whp turbo.

Price on a wrx turbo should be below 100. 100 for a new one maybe. An sti turbo could range from 350(vf39) to 700(vf48) all flow about the same but they improved the wastegate design and fixed a few issues with each progression.

Those turbo kits on the blankets and in the 500-600 range and its everything you need. Hate to steer you toward junk but the less subaru stuff you can use the better off you are.

You're the only person I've ever encountered that has actually recommended an ebay kit...
