im not sure if this is the place to post this, but can someone give me some basic info on base maps, tuning, turbo setups, engine build etc...


sorry if this post is noobish and pointless lol, im jus trying to find out what the point of base maps 3 bar maps and what not, what setups work best with what parts and why... thanks for any help!

 

base maps are usually "safe" fuel and timing maps (usually rich fuel and retarded timing) that you use to run on temporarily until you can get yourself to a tuner to get it done properly. Not intended to be used for long periods of time.

 

3 bar map sensors allow to read more pressure as the factory map sensor usually only 1 bar.

 

stock map sensors are good to 11psi. as a 2.5 map is good till 21psi.. and a 3 bar is in the range of 27psi/30psi.. these sensors can only be changed if the settings in your engine management are to read the bigger map sensor..

 

There are too many things to go over on turbo setuos, building etc. etcc, you need to search and do ALOT of reading up if it's something your interested in.

Base maps are POINTLESS, basically your paying someone to to a guess on a tune just to get your car running, until you get someone to tune it properly. I don't see why anyone wastes money on them, just wait until your ready to get tuned and get er done. You rick ****in your motor up with a base map...

 

Base maps are usually used to get the car running long enough to get it to a tuner or on the dyno. They are NOT meant to be a full tune. In most cases they are used with forced induction cars, so you should not hit boost while running on a basemap.

 

You have two seperate questions...

1. Base Map - is software for the engine computer
- your ecu needs a "map" to tell it when to spark and how much fuel to spray depending on load and RPM
- a "base" map is a map which is close enough to get the car running so a competent tuner can fine tune the map so it is custimized for your setup.

2. MAP Sensor - Manifold absolute pressure sensor (this is hardware)
- Your engine computer need to know how much vacuum or positive pressure is in the intake manifold in order to adjust how much fuel to spray and when to spark.
- the MAP sensor measures the vacuum or positive pressure (psi) at the intake manifold. it sends this reading to the ECU.
