!! UPDATE: Took it to my trusted local and sure enough its just the battery. Goin to pick up a new one today and Ill let you guys know if the problem is solved.

UPDATE II: The battery was definitely needed however the lack of power before seems to have burnt out the starter. Hopefully the flywheel is still in good condition. New starter here I come.
Thank God for standards, if I can't turn it over I can always "pop" start it haha

First off, I drive an 07 Si Coupe. No engine mods except drop-in K&N. ~55k miles.

Alright so I was driving home from work yesterday, everything was fine. I stopped at a friend's house and when we got ready to leave I started up and it turned over but it made a weird sound, same thing happened when I tried again. I made it home and when I went to leave again a little later, same noise but it didn't turnover.

I can't really describe the noise. I know I need a new battery soon but I don't think it was really a power issue.

Is it possible that I need a new starter already?

Its a high pitched metallic-like sound. Hard to explain. Maybe I can get a sound/video clip tomorrow for you guys.

 

I think that you and me have the same problem mine has done the same thing since i have owned it and mine is a 08. Mine sounds like just the starter is spinning and nothing else when you turn the key its really wierd and I dont know what would happen if i took it to the dealer because it doesnt do it all the time maybe 2 a month or so. Maybe my guess is that the starter isn't fully extending to the flywheel but I really dont know.
