Default JDM H22 Auto Transmission on F23

Asking this for a buddy of mine who has a 98 accord. Is it as simple as bolting on the h22 trans, or will he need the torque converter, flex plate, and tcu from the h22 also? TIA to all who reply.

No sir, some jdm h22's came with auto transmissions. Our 5th gen prelude also came with a sport shift auto tranny.

will the h22 tranny work with the f23 tranny plugs/connectors and ecu/tcu (i believe the tcu is integrated into ecu? correct). im pretty sure it would bolt up, but to run correctly, i'd like to know.

90-97 Accord & 92-96 Prelude use the same AT known as the H4A.
98-02 Accord & 97-01 Prelude use the same AT known as the M6HA.

Although these transmissions will physically bolt into a car they require completely different systems to operate.

If a JDM sourced transmission is directly installed into a USDM car the sensors are known to be different on the M6HA, they usually have different connectors to prevent installing the wrong sensors on the car, but that may not be the case for all the sensors. Use the known good existing sensors/solenoids from the original car/trans and install on the JDM sourced transmission.

Verify the fluid is full. Charging every circuit(gear) and verifying fluid fill before driving is required to have the transmission operate properly.

Verify there are no stored codes, not all transmission or 'D4' codes will set off the CEL or D4 lamp.

So, the 92-96 JDM Prelude transmissions should be "plug-n-play" in a 94 Accord? Or would it be better to swap out the sensors?

A 4th Gen Lude trans will work in a 4th/5th gen Accord. It should be plug n play.
Pull the right side cover sensors and verify they are clean. Same with the shift solenoids. Verify the throttle valve cable is properly adjusted as well.
If your old transmission worked but slipped from wear, then try reusing your old sensors/solenoids on your 'new' transmission.

Nothing at all wrong with the old transmission. It is in great shape. Which is why I have put off doing the swap. I just want different gearing.
