Would you say it was worth it?
I got a 5-speed EX (D16Z6) and was planning on building it up, it has a few minor mods and for the first time I did a little drag for fun (on private property away from public, this wasn't on the streets or freeway lol) against a friends '08 Nissan Quest and my Civic got smoked, by a van.... Obviously these cars aren't fast stock and I wasn't really expecting to win but I mean come on, completely owned by a van? rofl. I went from a Mustang to this Civic because of well...the crappy quality of Ford. I thought it wasn't so bad and started to like the car more up until I lost to a van. Anyone else ever feel discouraged to keep building? And if you did keep building was it worth it? Especially on these little D engines.

I know there are a lot of threads about the engines and building them and I'm sure I'll get flamed a little for asking something that seems repetitive and I'm also sure someones gonna tell me to just swap the motor but I don't have the tools for that, and I apologize but I'd rather have some more direct answers/comments or whatever from people that have first hand experience with the D motors besides, where else other than Honda-Tech am I going to get the best answers?

 

k do what im doing replace the clutch, make sure your not leaking any fluids buy some pistons rods and upgraded cams then turbo it probly about between 200-250whp!

 

you can do a little budget turbo build on your single cam and make good power without breaking the bank

 

Yeah I thought about the turbo and I'm still debating on it and researching my best options right now as far as those go. At first I was thinking about going N/A but I've learned in the past few weeks if I wanna go anywhere with a D motor it's gonna be through a turbocharger. 200-250whp doesn't sound too bad, as long as I'm not losing to mini-vans lol.

 

N/A is the expensive way to go slow

i woulnt recomend spending alot money building a d unless u have it :D most d turbo people always end up going b-series after wards but i rock d- series any day any time B-s are for basic D-arefor Diferent :D were pride

 

i was originally going to turbo my d series, but then deceided not to do to the car being mainly a autocross/road race car. I dont do straight line racing. But anyway, i have a 95 ex as well with the D still in it, the car is untuned but im pretty damn impressed with how the car is now, i just cant wait until its tuned. I like my N/A setup, i dont have much money stuck into it and am happy with it

 

i have a built Y8/Z6 hybrid setup and I love it. its boosted and i make 270WHP on a shitty ebay turbo. The whole build cost about as much as a JDM GSR swap does. And i have 300HP. Vitara Pistons (STD Bore), SCAT Fogred H-Beam rods, Klevite Bearings, Mild Cam, Z6 head. Ebay T3/T04E .63 Hot, .50 Cold, 44 Trim, 50 Ind 76 Exd.

I never regret building it, and i smile every time i smoke a B series.
