Default Problems with the oil pressure light.

Hey how's it goin' guys??

Recently as i've been driving, my oil pressure light would flicker on, then off. and my engine seems 'louder' than it once was. When it's cold, it has a slight 'knock' sound to it, but seems to go away when the car is warm. I checked the oil level in the car, and it's full. Could this be a problem with the oil pump by any chance?? Such as it not pumping enough oil through the engine??
I've never really messed with, or read much on an oil pump before, so any help is greatly appreciated........

Also, as a side note, the oil pressure light comes on when i'm on a hill, or when i start slowing down, or speeding up. It even comes on sometimes when i'm just driving normally, also. Any ideas guys???

And thanks again.

(I drive a 99 civic Si, with a b16a SiR-II engine, with the b16a (USDM) Oil pump swapped to the SiR-II engine)

Put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the car. See if the pressure is dropping or if there is just an issue with the oil pressure light wiring. If the pressure is good, troubleshoot the wiring. If the pressure is bad, troubleshoot the engine.

I think your oil pump took a **** and now its caused your block to go bad, that knocking sound is most likely a bad block now due to your failing oil pump, time for a new engine.

Quite possible.

OP: Don't drive the car until this issue is resolved by the procedure outlined by Ryan. If you were lucky, the oil pressure switch is faulty, but I think it's more likely a bad oil pump.

Ahh... damn. Sad thing is, it is a new engine. Well... used from Hmotors. But alright, i'll have to check it out. And by the way, the slight knocking sound isn't constant, it goes away once i let it warm up for about 5 minutes or so. But thanks for the input guys. I'll have to check it out monday.

if the knock goes away when it is warmed up hopefully it is just a valve thats a bit loose. If it was a rod or main bearing being shot it would do it warm or cold regardless. Like they reccomended get a oil pressure gauge on it and see what it says, more then likely like it has been said your oil pump is shitting out on you or you have a clogged oil pickup. i now use a oil pressure gauge daily on a pillar gauge pod since i had a problem with this as well.
