d16y8 swap into a 91
Just did a engine swap for a family member and in return I got a good running d16y8 vtec engine in return... I currently have a 1991 4door lx with a broken timing belt that i want to stick it in. What would i need to do in order to successfully complete this swap?
^^
That first, but assuming you have a manual tranny...
You will need to convert to MPFI and convert to OBD1.
It seems that you are getting the entire Y8 engine with sensors, distributor, and everything included so you won't have to buy anything!
It will bolt right up to your existing tranny.
Specifics for this swap:
- Properly wire the OBD2 distributor for OBD1
- Install the IAT sensor into the intake tube

The OBD2 internals work just fine with the OBD1 ECU.
If you get a jumper harness all you need to do is put the OBD2 wires in the right place on an OBD1 connector.
But where would you be getting your fuel maps and vtec activation?
The OOOLLLLDDD way with an RPM switch doesn't cost all that much less than going OBD1.
im still having a lil problems with the wiring like wire the vtec, and the 4 wire o2 sensor, its a project and im deseperate to finish it but since i dont know alot of honda's i have to wait for my stepdad to help me out, so if you can help a brother out ill appreciate it
