D15b7 Need rings or faulty compress test?
Hello everyone, this is my first post. Hope to make short. I am very new to imports but have engine knowledge. Inherited 94 Del Sol (free). running very rough and blue smoke. Did compression test (100-30-100-100). I now know it should be 180-190. Figured it might have been run low oil and scoarched rings/broke valve #2. Tore apart #2 had broke off ex valve. All cylinders had been honed and no ring lip. I think the bottom is good. I was going to replace valve and head gasket and put back together but not sure if the rings are bad or if I got false reading on compress test. only history on car is that it was running good and lost power. would still start and run very easy just rough.
i just rebuild a cylinder head on a civic i bought with the d15b7. it had a burn exhaust valve on cyl3 so i rebuilt the head and put it all back together. been running it about a month and it has been using a qt of oil every 500 miles and now it is running rough at low speeds again. comp test 190 on all holes except 65 on cyl3 again. so idk if that inj is down on flow and is causing higher egt's on that hole. i think the piston is damaged also because of all the oil consumption and you can see on the plugs that it is that hole using the oil. so moral of my story is you might want to make sure the pistons and rings look okay and and you dont have a faulty injh. i've gotta tear the engine apart again this weekend. what a pain in the ***!
