Default 5spd popping out of 2nd

The title pretty much sums it up--I've got a stock-ish 94 Civic EX Coupe 1.6 5spd that is intermittently hopping out of 2nd. I looked at/shimmied the trans mounts and they seem tight enough. The left lower engine mount is badly in need of replacement. Is that enough to make it hop out of gear? Am I looking at a trans rebuild? Shifter bushings?

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

If it's just one gear, most likely the problem within the trans, although bad engine mounts could cause some issues. Probably a broken countershaft bearing causing the countershaft to wobble in the trans. That or a really, really worn synchro sleeve that can't hold itself in the synchro hub.

CSB walked out. Don't try to hold it in gear or you'll do damage.

CSB needs to be pressed back in and staked.

Well I went for the obvious and easy first; I replaced the worn lower engine mount. This seems to have done the trick. I drove the car around for a while purposely driving it rough to try to knock it out and I had no problems. The old mount was basically non-existent so I can sorta see the torque from the engine twisting the whole engine/trans just enough to knock it out of second. I'm optimistic.

Should it start doing its tricks again you can bet I'll be back for an in-depth M/T service lesson.

Thanks again, y'all!
