Default painting valve cover-need some advice/help

Hey guys, I'm painting my DOHC ZC valve cover red tomorrow. The paint on it now is black, but its all chipped up and ugly. I bought 3 grits of sandpaper, paint thinner, and DupliColor Engine Enamel in red. I prefer the wrinkle/rough look to the valve cover. I don't really want it to be super smooth and shiny, so how can I get this finish? I already bought the paint, so I don't want to go out and look for VHT Wrinkle paint or whatever, I just wanna work with what I have.

thanks

use the paint thinner and remove all the old paint but dont use sand paper to smooth it out. and then just clean it really good and apply the new paint

you need Aircraft Stripper, its a foaming aerosol paint remover. works freakin awesome and its fun to watch the paint bubble up. its like $8 bucks a can tho, one can will cover the entire valve cover. all you do is spray it on, let it sit for like 20 minutes, hose it off, then do it again if necessary. use a plastic putty knife to scrape off any excess, which there shouldnt be but a little bit. i did mine recently check it out.

this is the same type of paint that you are going to be using.
