Default Is it legal to drive with no side mirror?

First, Im sorry mods.I dont know whether these question should belong to tech or chit-chat.

Yup my question is, Is it legal to drive in CA with no both side mirrors?
I've been driving for 2 weeks with no side mirror in my EF, mostly freeway home to work.
Reason? Im getting those side mirror painted here in buddy local body shop.

Well? Can I make some excuse maybe, by saying somebody stole both mirror? or?

Let me know..

Thank you.

not legal if it came with both from the factory, but if it only came with 1 then 1 is all you need.

yes it is illegal to drive without side mirrors, but it is only required to have one as long as you have a rear view mirror or both sides and no rear view.

now honestly if you get pulled over.. here is a thought ... TELL THE TRUTH if teh cop asks why jus say "there being painted" if you make up some bullisht lie hes not gonna believe it and its gonna be a fixit ticket..

you know?.. cops arent all stupid and most are pretty cool.. and if you tell the truth they may just let you off with a warning..

but then again this is all IF you get pulled over...

I thought as long as you had two of the three mirrors you were ok. ie, driver side mirror and rearview or driver and passenger. On my old accord I drove around for 3 years with out a rearview mirror and never got stopped.
but, maybe i'm just lucky

Correct. A car needs 2 functioning mirrors to be legal.

If you have the inside rearview mirror plus 1 side mirror, legal. However, without 2 side mirrors, you can't legally drive with the trunk partially open (bungee corded down for example), since it is considered to block the rear mirror. (Found that one out driving an 83 Cavalier without a passenger side mirror and a load of tires in the trunk.)

I believe that 2 side mirrors would be legal as well, but only because one cop told me I was fine without my rearview mirror when I had broken it off on one of my cars. But, I've also seen cops not fully understand the law, so I won't try and claim that as absolute truth.

You could always get a couple of bicycle mirrors as a temporary fix.
