How do you replace a TPS on a 92 Accord.

 

Unplug the electrical connector, then use a punch and hammer to make an indentation on the shear bolts, hold the punch at an angle, then loosen the bolt with the punch and hammer (hitting in a counter-clockwise direction). The picture is a shear bolt from an Accord ignition cylinder I removed awhile back, same concept.

Otherwise, you can do what others do and cut a slot to turn with a flat-head screwdriver.

USDM engines have shear-bolts holding the TPS, while JDM engines has torx-bolt (which you can remove with a torx driver).

If you don't have a Dremel tool or a center punch, a hack saw blade works just as well. I broke the blade in half and wrapped a bit of tape around one end to make a handle. Took me 15 minutes to take the TPS off this throttle body.



Cut a slot in the center of the shear-bolt like this,



insert flat head screwdriver



And turn counter clockwise



voila

 

try using a saw. it may look a hard job but could be the solution.

 

What does the TPS control on this particular model. Does it control the pulse width on the injectors? Or does it only control the advance and retard of the timing?

 

IIRC it controls a little bit of both, maybe more of the fuel adjustment that ignition though.

Why do you ask, do you have a TPS Code 7 or are you having some sort of problems with your throttle control on your Accord?

 

After rebuilding the engine it started to sputter after warming up. Finally found it to be the TPS. I can unplug it and it will run ok without it. I noticed that with it unplugged it will ping a little more on acceloration but not a lot. Just trying to make sure it is the TPS that has gone bad.

 

Measure the voltage between the signal & ground wire. With the ignition on engine not running (KOEO) closed throttel should be approx. 0.5v and wide open throttle should be 4.5 - 5v. As you open/turn the throttle by hand you should see the voltage move up gradually.

The measurments I got off my stock Accord TPS were 0.47v @ CT & 4.79 @ WOT.
