Default boost solenoid problem

ok here we go im running hondata s300 with the boost option. i got two tial 44mm, 17pd wg spring, afr topmount and a s372 with 1.25 ex housing. from 4000 to 5200 rpms it spools very quickly but levels off at 17psi from 5200 to 7000rpm and then will shootup and hits 31psi. we ve made 722hp at 9500rpm and 403tq at 8900rpm (i know the tq is down). here is where it gets interesting if i put the duty cycle at a 100% it well hit 38psi by 6500rpms no problem (boost cut set at 38psi). if i put a manual boost controller on problem. ive tried 2 new solenoids same out come. its either off or on no in between. it makes 17psi or it want to go infinity and beyond. ive change fequency on the boost selonoid ive moved duty cycles changes from 10% to 90%. ive took the wgs off and tested them, everything i can think of. the power band is not usable, the best time 11.02 @ 145mph. all topend 92mph in the 1/8 and 145mph 1/4. ls tranny, gsr 4th with a cuff and diff.

i have the same problem as well, it wont ever stay steady at 26 psi..if it goes that high it just hits boost cut at 27psi. Some runs it will be 21 psi, the next one it wont work at all, and then the next run it hits boost cut. I'm thinking maybe it is the boost hardware on my ecu?

Are you running a normally closed valve or a normally open valve? That will make a difference

If you are using a MAC solenoid or AEM solenoid, did you hook up the vacuum fittings on the solenoid and did you run the vacuum lines properly?

Why are you running 17 pound wg springs? I had a Full race top mount and was able to control boost to ~ 14 pounds then it hit all the way to 40 pounds with ease.

closed, running 1 and 2 ports with the filter on port3. 17pd is what they came with, purchased them from, i cant remeber his name but he was using them with no problem that i can recall, he ran 9.5s. again quick to 17psi levels out for about a 1500rpm and then ramps to 31psi which is 9800rpm thats at the rev limiter. i couldnt make anymore boost this way even if i want too.

for you guys with the same problem. go to the hondata home page go to the forum enter into s300 manger and down load the the newest s300 version and it allows you to change the boost solenoid fequence from 78Hz to 34Hz. this solved my problem.

Interesting. Did you have to go and reset all your duty cycle to boost ratios?

This is interesting! I was having similar issues, running neptune. Someone did mention the frequency, but didn't think much of it. Maybe i'll give it a shot when the new turbo comes in.

Glad to see you got it figured out tho...

The frequency was never a problem when you had the right solenoid. With the wrong solenoid, you get issues like the OP was having.

Having adjustable frequency allows you to run a lot of different solenoids, so it was a good thing to add.

How exactly do you have a wrong solenoid? Just trying to understand this alittle better. Meaning you need adjustable frequency, or some solenoids just seem to work better with certain mgt's.?

Different solenoids are designed to run at different frequency's. For example the Ectune/AEM/Apexi/Hondata solenoids run at 31hz while the Gm's run at 20hz.

Interesting, On my shop car I had my mac on 25hz instead of 31hz in ectune, I wonder what effect this has been having on it at the track.. hmm...

Most MAC solenoids work great around 20hz, but there are some that won't operate at 20hz, it needs to be 40+hz and those are the ones that would not work with the S300 before the recent addition of frequency control.

went from 85% duty cycle to 35% duty cycle to make same boost level and ramps very quickly. changed fq to 34hz seems to be working fine once we changed it it took 2 pulls to chuck the teeth off 4th. made 600hp by 6500rpms on 29psi. still need to set up the pressure vs duty cycle should help even more

what solenoid are you using?

We have the hondata solenoid with S300. straight WG, solenoid not hooked up, The car makes 13-14 psi. with the solenoid hooked up, it spools a little slower, and creeps the entire powerband up to 17-18psi when set at 0%. Then when off then dyno, the car creeps soooo bad, it hits boostcut (24psi) when set at only 5% duty cycle. But the car with a manual controller works flawlessly. Any insight? I'm at a loss, and about to swap back to a dual stage manual controller.
