Icon2 Trans cooler on my boosted auto ex?

Hey guys, I just finished putting a turbo/intercooler on my 95 ex and because im in a wheelchair I have to drive with my hands so I can only drive an auto car (I know, thumbs down to that). Im gonna only run about 7 or 8 psi so I dont blow the auto trans and was wondering what you guys thought about maybe putting a trans cooler on up front with maybe a small fan on it that I could switch on if I see the trans temp gauge getting up a little high? Would this work to help protect it a little better or should I just settle for less boost and not beating on it? :-( Thanks in advance-

I've never heard of it done, but I think it's a smashing idea. I definitely think a transmission cooler would help the auto hold up better.

I don't know if Honda ever came out with one for the Civic, but I know that lots of other cars had them. It would probably be fairly easy to tap and modify your transmission to run one. Heck, my Jeep's got one that would probably work if you could run trans fluid and coolant to it somehow... it just has an inlet and outlet that runs coolant from the radiator, and an inlet and outlet for transmission fluid.

Very very few people build decently modified automatic Hondas, but kudos to you on this one.

Try contacting these people. Tell them your power goals, not boost level (which is irrelevant), and see what they recommend.

Wihout question the addition of an trans cooler will help prolong your tranny. Just don't expect that to solve all your troubles since you are working with an auto tranny.
The more load you put, the more weight you carry the more stress you put so just like Domestics towing something a trans cooler will definitely extend your auto tranny longer. Fir how much longer well that is up for discussion.

you guys know there is already a trans cooler. its the 2 hoses on the bottom of the radiator, those hoses go to your trans. if you wanted you could just put in a larger cooler by taking the 2 hoses off and putting them on the new cooler.

You may already have one, a lot of times it's built right into the radiator. I know most vehicles the radiators are different from a manual and automatic due to that reason. Don't get me wrong I'm sure an aftermarket cooler setup would be a lot better in the long run.

edit ^^^ what both those two guys said too

ok very good- i did know about the existing radiator, but didnt know it was as simple as just pulling the two hoses off and plugging them into a new cooler. I will look into that and that way I can also replace my stock radiator with an upgraded one for a 5 speed without the worry of not having the trans hookups on it. Thanks for you input all.

A few things here:
I'm not sure if the 95 Civics had Trans coolers, but my 97 EX has a trans cooler built into the Radiator (because it was automatic when I bought it). I have also seen a couple of boosted Automatic EX's on turbod16.com, so its possible. But they make like 175WHP. I'm not exactly sure of the other ones of saw but none of them were very high WHP numbers.

Just go to the JY and jack one from one of the cadillacs and you'll be set. Just make sure you do not get the tube ones. The one that you are looking for has a stacked design about 1/2" thick.
