Default timing issue

i have a 95 b18b. i timed the engine with the dizzy centered. it was way off. im thinking that this might be my issue with all the hesitation in my engine. i moved the dizzy so it went towards the radiator(front of the car) and the timing got even worst. so i then moved it the opposite direction(all the way) towards the firewall and the timing got the best its been. but im still not perfect. im a good inch or so off. if your looking at my engine when the headers are closest to you and the I/M is farthest. the timing mark on the pulley is lower than the pointer on the plastic. my question is what would i do to fix this? i cant make anymore adjustments with the dizzy because its turned all the way. so do i need to move the timing belt again? maybe im still a tooth off? i think this will fix my lagging/hesitation problem when i get the timing correct. let me know if you guys have any imput. i would greatly appriciate it.

I think your engine timing must still be off if you can't advance to 16 deg. You've jumped the connector in the passenger footwell and let the engine warm up, right?

Timing is off. There are alignment holes on the cams and cam caps, so just insert a small punch or some thing into each one, make sure the crank is at tdc, slide the belt on and you should be golden.

Agreed, you should set your crank to TDC and then properly align your cam alignment marks. Then just slide your timeing belt back on and you should be good.

yeah i let the engine warm up to runing temp and then jumped the service check connector. the service check connector is the one with 2 wires not 3 right? i think i need to adjust the timing belt still.

I wish I could say the same when we did the whole head resurfacing on my car. The belt tensioner lost it's tension. We had to push the tensioner manually and tighten it. The tooth kept skipping when we hand-crank the engine to see if the tension was firm.

But definitely redo the timing belt. Set the cam gears pointing up and the pistons on TDC. To keep the cams from spinning, put a small rod through the first shaft retainer's hole. Put everything back together. Dont forget to get use the timing gun to get an exact reading on where your dizzy should be.

You should be good after that.
