Default What do I need to tune? New to EFI... Help is appreciated!

So basically I need a small tutorial from the very beggining. I know nothing about these EFI systems, and after a long while of trying to find info on my own I figured I will pop a Q. I have a 1991 LS B18A OBD0. I have socketed/ chipped my ECU, but what will I need to tune it once I want to go bigger than IHE? I will not be tuning myself, I'm going to pay SpeedFactory the big bucks when the time comes for a dyno tune. I see all this Crome, Hondata, Neptune stuff and realize (I think) it's not just a program, but actual hardware that is (Needed?) to tune a car. Also it seems like I must do an OBDI conversion to get a real tune? What is the baseline stuff I will need to get an awesome tune on my car? Thanks in advance for the help! Kyle

You need a chipped ECU, hardware to either real-time tune or burn a chip, and a software package to tune with.

If you get a NepTune RTP package or a Hondata S300 you simply install the hardware in the ECU and then tune it with the software.

Here's an install video of how the NepTune RTP works.

Why not call speedfactory or stop buy their shop and talk to someone about having your car tuned. That way you can begin a relationship with your tuner. That's what I would suggest. Ask them the same question and they will be able to tell you what they require.

If you get tuned by a tuner you'll need a chipped ECU and that's it. Definitely give them a call to see if they have any other prerequisites for getting tuned.

So Just the 28 pin socket and a chip for them to burn? =] That makes me excited.! Or do I need it chipped with like a neptune or hondata board, which will cost several hundred$ to do on my car? What if I want to tune a turbo, or nitrous? I think I will pay a visit to SpeedFactory next week. I need to have a new exhaust made, I destroyed my Tsudo muffler...

If you want to tune yourself or make adjustments yourself later on, you'll need more hardware and software.
