Cleaning Engine Bay Without Having To Hose It Down
Don't lynch me, I searched first. What I came up with was that Simple Green does the best job, but everyone just said to hose the engine bay down afterwards. I dont want to hose it down.
Is there a cleaner out there that does not require me to hose the engine bay down afterwards? Also, do I really need to hose down the smiple green, couldnt I just wipe it away with a towel?
TIA

just hose it. dont soak it in areas like the valve cover or distributor, maybe cover up hte fuse boxes and some of the harnesses. then just hose it. easy as pie.
I was suspicious of hosing my engine bay before i finally did it. You will need to cover up the distributor cap for sure and the throttle body as well (i usually put towels over them). After that go nuts with the simple green and let it sit for a few minutes and then hose off. After that, take some sort of industrial strenght blower and blow out the engine instead of wiping it down. Does just as good of a job and a lot less time spent. I can clean my engine bay in 10 mins and have it look good as new.

Brake cleaner works great at removing grease and grime, especially if you have a cam seal leak. Use it any where there is grease build up, except for painted surfaces. It doesn't really take paint off it can just kind of dull your red valve cover. Best of all it dries instantly and leaves no residue.

yeah, hose that sucker down george. I was scared the first time I did it, but it turned out great. Hell, I didn't even cover anything up..just sprayed the engine bay down with water and then simple green, let it sit there for a minute..scrubbed all the tough places with a brush and just rinsed with water. Turns out great.
same here, just did it today. Dont be afraid of the water.
Just cover all the necessary components( fuses, distributor, etc.)
I usually do so with a towel covered by a plastic bag
Good as new

why dont you want to hose it down? are you skurd?

Good thing it's still clean i can delay cleaning her up for now
Simple Green works wonder on cleaning the engine bay. That reminds me, I'm gonna steal some from work tomorrow.
Simple Green works great just be sure to rinse it all off, cause it really isnt good for the paint. After I am done rinsing off the s.g., I like to rewash everything with reg car wash soap just to be safe.
