d16y5 swap wont go over 4k rpms.. its on a 98 hx original d16y7 blow with 251k miles and was swapped out and put in a d16y5 from the dx 96 model non vtec. was wondering if its the ecu not letting it go over 4k rpms since hx is a vtec-e model. let me know what you think about it. thanks!

I think you got the engine confused. Y5=HX Y7=DX and CX You should get the correct ECU for the motor.

 

sry i got confused ya the y5 motor blow out and was swapped out for a y7 non vtec. do you think that its the ecu restricting it from going over 4k since the y5 is a vtec-e motor?

 

What are the CEL codes? I also think you need the Y7 ECU.
