Default Best set of 6.5" coaxials

No flames please for using coaxes, theses are going in a NSX and I don't want cut the door panels up.

I haven't paid much attention to the car audio seen lately. I know the usual brands that are good. I am looking for some input on any speakers that may have come out on in the last couple of years that have performed well. Specific model numbers with a brief description of why you like them would be most helpful. Recommendation of old models would be appreciated as well

I was thinking of going with a set of MB Quartz because of there tendency of being bright. Since they will be on the floor I am hoping this will help make it appear like the sound is coming from a higher location then it really is.

the 65.2i from infinity has a rachetting tweeter so you can aim from the floor, the sound is fairly smooth, and the tweeter position will not change with road bumps etc like other brands (due to the rachetting..)

audition them somewhere if you can, otherwise the brighter quartz' will be a good idea.

If I was looking for a good co-ax setup, an out board crossover would be a requrement. That said, there are many companies that make co-ax''s that sound as good as their component counterparts. I wouldn't hesitate buying any of the following:

a/d/s/ 336 im - very mellow, laid back setup. I have a set in my brother's bmw...sounds great, good midbass - http://www.adst.com The comp basket is a bit wide, so may be an issue mounting them. Tweeter is fixed at a 15 deg angle, but can be rotated 360deg

ID Chameleons CXS6.2 or 6.4 - one of my fav sets. They are a comp set, but come with the mounting hardware to make them into a co-ax set. One thing to be aware of - large magnet and basket...you may have a problem getting these in, although I know nothing about an NSX door. Great midbass, and they are available in 2 ohm sets....double your power for the same amount of money. I'm using these mids to complement my HLCD's. http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com

morel integra 6's - again good free air response. Morel makes great products, tweeter is lacking a bit of the "sizzle" of a focal or mb setup. http://www.morelusa.com Extreemely shallow basket makes for an easy install, but they may have an oversized diameter.

OZ audio vector or matrix co-ax's - known for detailed midbass, but not necessarily output. Again, great accuracy. http://www.ozaudio.com

CDT Braxial's - anther component set that has a tweeter bridge. Again, I have yet to hear these, but never heard a bad review...woth looking into... http://www.cdtaudio.com

Diamond Audio M3 co-ax's -= I used to run the HEX which was the top of the lline...I noticed that they took a lot of power to get moving, but past that they were very transparent. http://www.diamondaudio.com I would try the co-ax....their baskets (diamond) fit very well in honda's freaky openings. Again, the tweeter is mounted at an angle.

As far as MB Quart is concerned, if you mount the tweeter off axis, I consider them to be bearable. Past that I don't really like anthing in their under $700 category. Focal makes some co-ax too in their lower lines.

Remember, you can make a tweeter bridge for any compset out there. Any of the above sets would be great in a true co-ax config.

Hope that helps

I have used Image Dynamics Horn Loaded Compression Drivers they are one of the best. I will have to check out there speakers, the only down side is I can't find anyone locally that caries them.

Thank you to everyone that has responded very useful information! More posts are welcome. Nice to see the regulars are still posting .

I'd recomend Cerwin Vegas. The VEGA MAGS are the best coaxials i have heard. Also Diamond Audios are excellent. They are hard to find but great speakers.

http://www.uscaraudio.com They have Image Dynamics

I can get you better deals than that website if you go through me.

Anyone know where to get the Soundstream exact 6.3's?
Anyone know wackycivic he has offered me the ID's for a very good deal?

I was at the store yesterday and listened to a set of 65.2i's from infinity. For the price I don't think you can beat them. They sounded better than a very pricey set of MB Quarts.

That's what I'm saying! People should learn to compare by Listening at flat EQ rather than comparing prices... I love the infinity for price/performance ratio (however Infinity perfect series' tweeter is waaaay harsh even at -3db...so thats why i recommend the kappas rather than the highest one)

Glad you enjoyed them And good to see you around? Hows courses?
