26x10s and 5.9s--spool or quaife?
Changing to 26x10s next season and I have been using dss 5.9s. I have had on set of 5.9's break on me already in the burn out box, but was told it was one of the bad ones that were made. I really like my prodrive spool, but with the 26s i have a better chance of breaking the 5.9s. I guess my question is who is is runnin 5.9d with 26s? Are you still breaking them, or should I run the lsd to be safe, cause I do not want to go into the wall.
thanks
thanks
didnt miller jsut break an axel at the last event & doesnt he run MW. also i belive he is on a spool from what ive read & he still drove the car down the track in his vid.

There is no such thing as an unbreakable axle. I just broke an axle with a spool not long ago and did everything but wreck. It scared the crap out of me. If you are going to use the 5.9's, use an lsd. The 26's are gonna break 5.9's every now and then. Please don't risk it with a spool.

just curious...why are 26's more prone to axle breaking than 24.5s?
is it the extra sidewall that makes the slick not 'give' enough?
got some 26's on rota slips sitting but paranoid as hell to run them vs. the 24.5/13 or 15s..
and any way to help limit axle breakage? i understand breaking parts is part of the game but would suspension height in the rear (slightly lower than the rear to alleviate 'stress' when launching) and ramping boost in 1st help any amount?

im on 26's now with 5.9s 30 passes or so havent broke an axle yet, KNOCK ON WOOD, im sticking with a quaife, even though after those 30 passes the quaife broke into a million pieces at the outlaw race. with it broke, the quaife still lasted 2 more passes, thow it was more like a spool than an lsd at that point.
I broke one of the older version pro levels. I broke the left cv joint in the middle of third gear at about 110mph. The car immediately turned hard left. I yanked hard right and got back in the gas and it went straight for the wall. I yanked it back and braced for impact I just knew I was in the wall. After several yanks back and forth on the wheel, I somehow saved it. After that, DSS upgraded my pro levels to the new style and they are doing great!
Don't get me wrong, the 5.9s will last a while, but I would not run them with a spool because they will eventually go. The inboard joint on the passenger side is just too small. The best thing you can do to avoid breaking them is stuff that reduces shock. Clutchless shifting, if not setup right will destroy parts. Clutch setup is very important in reducing shock as well. A good carbon clutch will reduce shock, but is very expensive. You can make a regular twin work, it just has to be right.

We broke big axles the last couple times to the track with under 400hp, only 1750lbs, on 26x8.5 tires. We have a spool and shooting towards the wall is hole puckering. I highly recommend an MFactory LSD for safety.
If anyone wants to buy some K series spools...drop me a PM. I will gladly switch to the MFactory stuff.

mfactory is what i replaced my older lsd w. Have a handful of passes on it and the only thing i broke was my halfshaft and my driver side 5.9s. So as far as i know my next upgrade is mark williams. Till then im goin back to 24.5. Cuz the main thing you want is consistency not fingers crossed everytime i launch.
Another big $$$$ axle is made by Rob Moore Nitro Drivelines.
