Default 97 ex made 99 si ECU problems

I have a 97 ex made si, 5 speed, b16 JDM and have been running into some problems. I'm running a p72 gsr ecu in it, but have been havin driving problems which i've been told revolve around it. The car isn't engaging v tec at all, and sometimes when i drive it i can take it up to about 8500 rpms, but then others while driving it it'll hit like a rev limiter of 5600. I'm not quite sur eon what to do about this. I've been told to get a p28 and run a obd 2 to obd 1 harness, and then others have said to find a p30 ecu and run that. Any suggestions to getting vtec engaging and on the proper ecu that i should run. please help. Also am running a check engine light, threw a bunch of codes for some sensors, also have heard that will run in limp mode to these are all fixed. any help?

Well if it is a B16A then a P30 is the right ecu but a P72 should work, what codes r u getting? The P72 has a knock sensor board in it and should throw that code at least, and the Vtec is controlled by speed, oil pressure, temperature, TPS, and RPM. Sounds like u have a intermittent sensor in the dizzy tho.
