Default why use a fmu?? vs mail order basemap??

ive been reading up on fmu's and the missing link, and also found a few companys that do mail order basemaps and such. my question is why would someone do the fmu and missing link instead of simply having the ecu chipped?
for instance im using a obd0 pr3 with my b16, and i want to boost it around 8-10lbs, now i can send my ecu off and get a basemap to get me going for around 75 bucks, or just buy a whole ecu with a basemap for around 130. and from what ive read, a basemap is decent to safely drive on. or i can buy the fmu and the missing link(fish tank valves) and it costs more, and also ill need a wideband o2 to make sure its not running lean and to adjust it. am i right about all this or what? and with both methods i need bigger injectors and pump?

An fmu & missing link doesn't control ignition timing as well as a basemap will.

Do your self a favor, get the proper size injectors & fuel pump & get the car properly tuned using a chipped ecu.

i plan on going the ecu rout but the closest dyno tuner is like 3 hours from me and they still dont do obd0, and i will NOT convert to obd1, i just baught this ecu and distributor. i dont want a race car i just want something fun as ive never owned a turbo car. i plan on some dsm 440's and a walbro pump so that should do it for the fuel needs. and i also want a wideband o2 sence its a mail order tune i want to be sure its not running lean, ive found the injectors and fuel pump for under 200, and the aem wideband gauge comes with a bosch sensor for under 150. does all this sound good/safe?
