Default ever tried this?

Anyone ever tried 6-1/2'' subs mounted in the rear?

I'm curious about these JL Audio 6W3v3-4.

You know,

There is a section entitled Audio/Security.

You might get answers there.

i had a set of alpine components in the back of my hatch for a while, and accidently set my 4ch amp to lpf only, and the 6.5's made some GOOD bass, but it wasn't loud enough for my taste

It's actually 5.25" isn't it?

My 6.5" components wouldn't fit

eh... you can do it but i dont think it is worth it the subs need boxes to sound right. if your car is new enough to have actuators to hold the trunk open (like a 94 accord) then you could put boxes on the back of them under the rear deck. but if you have a car that uses torsion bars to hold the trunk open (like a 93 integra) then the boxes probably wouldnt fit and it would be a pain in the ***.

The reason that they need boxes is that the air pressure from 1 will effect the other meaning that neither will sound as good as they can. the rear space of any speaker should ideally be separated from all other speakers. to avoid the interference sharing space can cause. this is especially true with subwoofers. also the rear deck on a lot of cars is to flimsy for this and will flex a lot.

I have an it's easy enough to do.

Just buy speakers that are sealed that won't need an enclosure.

Even at that, depending on how and where they are mounted in the rear, 6" subs don't need a lot of air space by volume.

right thats part of my point, since they dont need much air space they will sound better with less. ie. they will sound better if you enclose them. i guess i did sound a bit too much like it cant be done. but yes if you find "sealed subs" as you called them, i'm assuming you mean free air subs (sealed could be another name i have just always heard them referred to as free air) then it could sound alright. bass will be crisper with boxes though.

what car do you have OP? and if you know, does your trunk lid have actuators or torsion bars? that could help a lot with recommendations
