Ups: decently fast stock, can make a lot quicker
Downs: pretty much everything mechanical on the car

I probably exaggerate a little bit but my 97 GSX was a P.O.S. Transmission (auto) was falling apart at 70k, turbo blew up at 68k, turbo manifold cracked at 68k, had all balljoints replaced under a recall, brakes never worked right no matter how many times I bled the system or flushed it. When it was running, it ran like a champ and was pretty quick for being all stock. I had problems with the charging system no matter how many alternators and batteries were replaced. I had to cross my fingers every time I went out to get in it that it would start and wouldn't leave me stranded.

Do a lot of research on DSMs, because if you don't know anything about them or don't know how to work on cars, you're going to be in a world of ****. And I think there are a lot of people on here that will somewhat agree with me.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Would you recommend another type of car. I'm really trying to just get an idea of what I might want

+1. If you don't have time or money not worth it.

CRANK WALK... bubby spend a fortune on his motor at Road Race Engineering and the motor never seemed to last more than a couple of months at a time... this was in the late 90s...

Stay away.
