Default D16Z6 fast idle thermo valve (write-up)

ok so there is write ups about this for DOHC engines that i know of but i just did one on my Z6

ok well if you is idling over 1800rpm on a normal day then this will help
if it loops at stop lights this will help
if your cars idle changes when you adjust you climate controls this will help

but i would check and clean your IACV first its much easier
and if your car is 96+ you may not have this
and i think all sohc are pretty close to this

now on to the tools you will need...
12mm
10mm
8mm
flat head screw driver one short one long
needle nose
carb cleaner and i also use PB just to be safe

now you have to remove your intake and throttle body which i found really easy so i didnt take pics

but all you have to do is remove all the stuff plugged into it then the 4 12mm bolts holding it on

NOW BE CAREFUL AND TRY NOT TO RIP YOUR TB GASKET!!!
if you do you need to buy a new one

now once your tb is off there is 3 10mm bolts on the bottom take them off

then it should look like this

now take your 8mm and remove this plate

now take your short flat head and unscrew the plastic piece threaded in there

now that its out i spayed everything with carb cleaner and then after you clean everything really good

then screw the plastic thing back in dont be super rough with it but you have to push kinda hard and turn it to get threaded back in and then i just threaded it flush

note: threading it in farther maybe the only thing wrong and you might not have to clean it

and it will kinda look like this

then just do everything in reverse and your done

good luck
and if you have a question just ask

i know this thread is a little old, but my car has this problem. the thing is, when i do what this says, it still does it. my question is: is there supposed to be a little pin between the wax plunger and the valve, that pushes the valve closed? i took the wax plunger thing off, and when i heat it up it does nothing. something should expand or something should happen, seeing as in its supposed to expand when hot and close the valve

Can this be a possible problem for a high idle only when the engine is cold, or would it still idle high at operating temperature?

It is not supposed to continuously rev itself up to 3000 rpms until it hits operating temperature, and that's what mines doing.

Hi.

This also applies for a car that Idles too low to almost 0 rpm after releasing the acelerator pedal?

I have that issue,

I have some videos of it happening, so if you need them please tell me
