Default Coolant problem on 95 civic

I have a 95 civic with a d16z6 motor in it. I just put a new water pump and timing belt on it. I am having a problem with the coolant system. It was back flowing into the coolant resevoir but I'm not sure if it is going to do that now or not. When it runs there is smoke coming from the exhaust and water flowing out of the exhaust. I have checked the thermostat and bought a new radiator cap. It is having steam coming from the radiator seam or cap one. I flushed the radiator but it is still doing it. I was talking to one of my buddies earlier and he said it may be the head gasket. Any ideas?

Water flowing out of the exhaust is one leaky headgasket. You may even have a cracked head.
