do you have a leak? check for any wetspots on the block.

 

add oil the light will go off, your losing oil somewhere, most likely burning it

Well, the dipstick won't measure if you are close 2 quarts low or somewhere around there. Did you measure how much is coming out the oil drain plug? Sounds like you are burning oil if you can't find any leaks, but that a lot oil and you should see some good size puddles. You can try some heavier weight oil to limit the amount oil if you are burning it up.
