Icon6 D16y8 VTEC PROBLEMS!!!! HELLLLPPP!!!

SO i have a d16y8 in my 00 civic ex and i have the P2p ecu and my vtec does not engage at all. I havent done an oil change at all and i know there is a small oil pan gasket leak. What should i do first? put fresh clean oil in there? and once that is done could it be the VTEC solenoid? if so how can i check the operation of the solenoid? Whats the next step in the diagnosis process?

I would really appreciate it

Thanks in advanced Chuck

Wire the selenoid directly to the battery with the car running and check if is engaging that way.... ( start up the car and then plug the wire) if is engaging replace the oil pressure switch on the vtec and u r good to go..... good luck..

There is no CEL? because if VTEC doesnt engage on a VTEC ECU then there is a CEL code.

Yep. Should be a CEL if it's not working.

OP, how are you sure that your vtec's not engaging? I drove with a y8 for 6 years, and it wasn't ever really noticeable.

If you're sure vtec's not working, and you don't have a CEL, I'd take it to autozone and pull the codes anyway. It could be that your CEL is malfunctioning.

yea its possible that the CEL is malfunctioning. But also you can hear VTEC when it engages. The sound of the motor changes.

There are no check engine lights, and it it the factory engine and ecu. D16y8 and p2p ecu. I actually am not sure if the vtec isnt working. I was looking for a significant pull from the car like a b16 does. But if a d16 doesnt have a significant rpm gain after 5500 then maybe its just hardly noticeable

its just not really noticeable. Just listen to the motor, it should change pitches when it hits VTEC. Thats about all that happens, if VTEC doesnt engage it just doesnt pull at all after like 5500. B16 is just a D16 with a harder pull in VTEC.
